How do I order a cake?
Wedding cake orders, we recommend that you enquire about your desired date as early as possible, summer dates can book up very quickly and often more than a year in advance. Please message us via our website ‘Contact Us‘ page, fill in the relevant information and you will receive a automatic response. We will respond to your initial enquiry as soon as possible, please allow up to a week for a response. Due to the nature of our business we are often working in the kitchen all day. Once we have confirmed your date is available we can discuss any initial design details in order to give you an estimated price. Don’t worry if you are unsure on design details as we can go through general pricing, we can secure your date before we have finalised a design for your wedding cake.
We can confirm your wedding date before a consultation with a £50 save the date deposit; this is a non-refundable and non-transferable deposit which ensures your date is booked into our diary. We work on a first come first served basis and we cannot hold dates without a deposit.
We recommend a consultation within the year of your wedding date to meet you and finalise design details, logistics and discuss delivery. Consultations are usually on a Saturday once a month but in some circumstances we they can be held during the week if necessary. We hold the consultation within our cake studio in Leyburn, where you can see examples of our work as well as try some of our wedding cake samples. Consultations are preferred in autumn, winter or spring, as throughout the summer months all our time is required with the current orders and deliveries. We appreciate your patience throughout these months.
Please note, we can complete orders for some cakes via email.
Following your consultation, you will receive a written quote. Confirming cake design, any additional favours, stand/prop hire and all logistical aspects. This will include a detailed breakdown of prices. Upon agreement 50% of the quote will be required. All payment details will also be included
The remaining payment is due one calendar month before the wedding date.
Once booked, the week of your wedding we will be in-touch with your venue with a list of ingredients and allergens, also allowing us the opportunity to confirm logistics with the venue.
Need a cake but have no idea what sort of design!
Part of our job is to discuss with you to get the cake of your dreams – even if when you start off you don’t quite know what that dream is!
During a consultation we take the time to get to know you as a couple and also run through details of your wedding. Using our experience and knowledge we will suggest some ideas that we think might compliment your wedding and express your style as a couple. Its always helpful to bring along any saved images to your consultation together with colour swatches and pictures of flowers so we can incorporate one or more of the elements into your wedding cake. We have display cakes to show you sizes of cakes and also different designs and styles.
How much will a wedding cake be?
All of our wedding cakes and celebration cakes are bespoke designed and therefore the prices vary widely depending on size and the level of detail of decoration. Please get in touch via the contact us page for a quote.
How can I pay for my wedding cake? do I need to pay a deposit?
At the studio we can take either cash or card, you can pay by card over the phone or via direct bank transfer. A ‘Save the date’ payment of £50 can be paid after confirming your wedding date. After you receive your quote a 50% non-refundable and non-transferable deposit will be required to secure your booking, and the remains balance 4 weeks before your wedding date.
What size cake do we need to serve all of our guests?
If you tell me approximately how many guests you with to serve I can work out the correct size you will need, and whether you want to serve the cake for dessert, which will require a larger portion. This can be discussed at the consultation and a display cake can help you visualise the size.
Do you deliver the wedding cake for us?
Absolutely, as part of our service we provide, safe delivery and set up of your cake to your venue on your wedding day at an agreed time. Depending on where the venue is located this will either be included in the cost of your cake or a fee will be charged to cover mileage and time if the venue is further afield.
We will make sure the cake is in a safe position and if we feel it may get damaged we will arrange with the venue a more suitable position, for example if in exposed sunlight and this may compromise the cake.
Do you provide cake stands?
We offer stand hire. Cake stands are not included in the cost of the cake. In the case of wedding cakes, some venues can supply a cake stand – you should check with your wedding planner or with the venue direct.
We have a large selection of pedestal glass stands, cupcake towers etc that are available for hire for a small charge of £15, with a security and damage deposit of £25 depending on availability – please ask for details.
Stands must be returned undamaged and within 3 days after your wedding date then the security deposit will be returned. If the stand or any of the props hired by a couple are damaged we would require the couple to pay in full for the replacement of the item, we often have items hired out back to back and want to give each order exactly what has been requested and expected.
How do I care for my cake?
Collection of celebration cake. On collection of the cake needs to be put in the foot well or boot of the car, please drive with caution when you have a cake on board. Never on knees or on car seats, the vibrations can easily cause damage.
Our cakes do not like being put in the refrigerator! Once you have received the cake, you must store it in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight. You can refrigerate or freeze cakes once they have been cut to preserve them. If you would like to keep any decorations such as sugar flowers or figurines, remove them from the cake and store in air tight container preferably with some anti-moisture crystals.
What about cakes for those with nut or other allergies? Do you offer Gluten free cakes?
Our kitchen does contain nuts and other allergens. If you or any of your guests have a specific dietary requirement, then please get in touch with us before ordering to discuss your requirements. We do offer gluten and nut avoided cakes, however all our cakes are baked in a kitchen which does contain gluten and nuts. If there are only one or two guests with special dietary requirements I would advise supplementing the main cake with a gluten free mini cake or cupcakes which can be decorated to match the main cake, and if you wish, can be displayed alongside your wedding cake to avoid those guests feeling left out
We can cater for gluten, dairy, vegan and nut free allergy requirements. we have a separate area in our bakery to try an avoid cross contamination but please note we handle all the above in our kitchen.
